IT Support Engineer I/IIFull-Time | Primarily Remote | Regional Candidates Preferred
$45,000–$60,000/year DOE | Health Insurance & Benefits
Ready to Grow Your IT Career?
Signal 13 MSP is growing, and we're looking for an IT Support Engineer I/II to join our team.
We're looking for someone who enjoys technology, likes solving problems, and isn't afraid to dig in and figure things out.
You don't need to know every system on day one. We're open to someone with a solid IT foundation who's ready to take the next step, as well as someone with Tier II or MSP experience who can jump into more advanced issues.
For us, technical ability is only part of the equation. Initiative, accountability, communication, reliability, and a strong work ethic matter just as much.
If you're someone who sees a problem and thinks, “Let me figure this out,” instead of waiting for someone else to handle it, we'd like to meet you.
What You'll Be Doing
No two days in an MSP are exactly the same. You'll work with different clients, environments, and technologies while helping keep their businesses running.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing remote technical support for our managed IT clients
- Troubleshooting Windows desktops, laptops, software, printers, and peripherals
- Supporting Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and user accounts
- Managing users, permissions, licensing, MFA, and access
- Working with Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID environments
- Troubleshooting Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, DHCP, connectivity, switches, firewalls, and other networking issues
- Supporting and troubleshooting Ubiquiti/UniFi environments
- Assisting with endpoint security, backups, monitoring, and managed services platforms
- Working support tickets from initial troubleshooting through resolution
- Researching and troubleshooting issues before escalating when possible
- Escalating complex issues appropriately and learning from those escalations
- Communicating directly with clients and keeping them informed
- Keeping tickets, troubleshooting notes, and client documentation accurate and up to date
- Assisting with equipment deployments, migrations, installations, upgrades, and IT projects
- Providing occasional onsite support when hands-on work is needed
- Participating in an occasional on-call rotation
Who We're Looking For
Technical skills matter, but how you approach your job matters just as much.
Because you'll be working remotely most of the time, we're looking for someone who can manage their responsibilities, stay engaged, and be counted on without needing someone constantly checking in.
You'll fit in well here if you:
- Take initiative. You see something that needs attention and don't always wait to be told to handle it.
- Take ownership. You follow your tickets through, provide updates, document your work, and make sure things don't fall through the cracks.
- Stay engaged and responsive. Your clients and teammates can count on you throughout the workday.
- Look for what's next. When things slow down, you follow up on open items, improve documentation, check monitoring, learn something new, or see where the team needs help.
- Follow through. If you tell a client or teammate you're going to do something, you do it.
- Troubleshoot. You research, investigate, and make a genuine effort to understand an issue before escalating.
- Communicate. You ask questions when you need help and keep the right people informed.
- Take pride in your work. Our clients rely on us, and our team relies on each other.
- Want to grow. You're interested in learning new technologies and taking on more responsibility as your skills develop.
What We're Looking For Technically
We're flexible on exact years of experience because we're willing to consider candidates at different points between Support Engineer I and II.
A strong candidate will have experience or familiarity with several of the following:
- IT help desk, technical support, desktop support, or MSP environments
- Windows 10/11
- Microsoft 365 administration and troubleshooting
- Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID
- Networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPNs, switches, and firewalls
- Remote troubleshooting and support
- Ticketing systems and technical documentation
- Endpoint security, backup, monitoring, or device management tools
Experience That Will Help You Stand Out
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- Managed Service Provider (MSP) environments
- Ubiquiti/UniFi
- Windows Server
- Virtualization
- VoIP systems
- Security cameras
- Door access and access control systems
- Cybersecurity tools
- Cloud environments
Don't check every box? That doesn't automatically rule you out.
If you have a solid technical foundation, know how to troubleshoot, and genuinely want to learn, we'd still like to hear from you.
Where You'll Work
This is a primarily remote position, so you'll work from home for most of your day-to-day responsibilities.
Signal 13 MSP's physical office is located in Whiteford, Maryland, and we're ideally looking for someone who lives within reasonable driving distance of our office and general service area.
Most client support is handled remotely, but there will be times when hands-on support is needed. Occasional travel to client locations may be required for troubleshooting, installations, deployments, projects, and other onsite needs.
Some out-of-state travel may occasionally be required depending on client or project needs. This is not a frequent travel position, but candidates should be comfortable traveling when needed.
This position also includes participation in an occasional on-call rotation for urgent client needs outside of normal business hours.
Remote work at Signal 13 comes with flexibility, but also accountability. We rely on our team to stay connected, communicate, remain responsive, manage their workload, and be there when our clients and teammates need them.
Grow With Us
We don't want you to answer the same basic tickets forever.
As your skills develop, you'll have opportunities to take on more advanced troubleshooting, work with additional technologies, participate in projects, and grow into higher-level engineering responsibilities.
If you're earlier in your IT career, you'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers while gaining hands-on experience across real business environments.
If you come in with stronger Tier II experience, we'll put those skills to work while giving you opportunities to continue expanding them.
Your growth here will be driven by what you put into it.
