POSITION TITLE: Overnight Residential Advisor (Sunday-Thursday 11:15 PM – 7:15 AM)
REPORTS TO: Dean of Boys
LOCATION: Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf 300 E Swissvale Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15218
STARTING DATE: August 17th, 2026
JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a full-time, exempt, 187-day position.
Responsibilities include supervising student activities, ensuring student’s safety and security and must know the student’s whereabouts at all times, respond quickly to accidents or injuries, apply First Aid when necessary, assist with the student’s hygiene and clothes washing, assist student with social skills, homework assignments and some tutoring may be involved, individual must be of strong moral character, enthusiastic, and work well with children in recreational activities. Willingness to assist with maintaining the residential facilities and cleaning/organizing as needed. Any other tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Life or Dean of Boys.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma required. Prior overnight experience or experience working with deaf and hard of hearing children is helpful. Ability to stay awake and engaged during shift. Willingness to assist and stay calm during emergencies.
SIGNING REQUIREMENTS: The Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) for the position is “Intermediate.” The minimum level accepted at hire is “Intermediate.”
CLEARANCES REQUIRED: PA Criminal Background, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Clearance required.
