Position Summary
The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing all aspects of the deli department, including sales, merchandising, food safety, inventory control, labor management, and customer service. This position helps lead department associates, ensures operational standards are maintained, and drives department performance through effective execution of company programs and procedures.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
- Assist in managing the daily operations of the deli department.
- Ensure department conditions meet company standards for cleanliness, organization, and food safety.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, rotation, and code dating.
- Execute merchandising plans, displays, and promotional programs.
- Maintain proper stock levels to support sales and minimize out-of-stocks.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control processes.
Customer Service
- Provide outstanding customer service and actively engage with customers.
- Resolve customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure associates maintain a customer-first mindset and service standards.
- Promote department products and suggestive selling opportunities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Support the recruitment, training, coaching, and development of department associates.
- Provide direction and work assignments to team members.
- Assist in monitoring productivity and performance expectations.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
- Lead by example through professional conduct and strong work habits.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and safety regulations.
- Monitor temperature logs, product handling procedures, and cleaning schedules.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support department readiness for inspections and audits.
Financial Performance
- Assist in achieving department sales, margin, shrink, and labor goals.
- Monitor waste and implement strategies to reduce shrink.
- Support inventory accuracy and proper receiving procedures.
- Review department performance metrics and assist with action plans to improve results.
Qualifications Preferred Experience
- Previous deli, food service, grocery retail, or department leadership experience preferred.
- Experience supervising or training employees is desirable.
- Knowledge of food preparation, merchandising, and inventory practices preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
