Overview
The Project Manager is responsible for leading all phases of project execution, from pre-construction planning and coordination through fabrication, installation, and project closeout. This role ensures projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, and safety regulations.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing metal fabrication and installation projects, strong leadership and organisational skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively between clients, subcontractors, engineers, and internal teams. An engineering background is preferred.
Key Responsibilities1. Project Planning & Execution
- Develop, manage, and own comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Lead project kickoff activities and establish clear scope, deliverables, and timelines.
- Actively manage project milestones, identifying risks and delays before they impact cost or schedule.
- Allocate and manage internal and external resources efficiently.
- Ensure all project objectives are achieved within approved scope, schedule, and budget.
2. Coordination & Communication
- Lead coordination between internal departments, subcontractors, engineers, and clients.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects.
- Conduct and participate in client, subcontractor, and internal coordination meetings.
- Provide consistent, accurate project updates to stakeholders.
- Foster strong professional relationships with clients, vendors, and team members.
3. Submittals, Drawings & Documentation
- Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs prior to client or consultant submission.
- Coordinate closely with engineering and detailing teams to ensure constructability and accuracy.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and well-organised project documentation.
- Proactively track project progress and escalate issues as needed.
4. Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
- Manage permitting processes with city and regulatory agencies.
- Track permit approvals, inspections, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure all permits, inspections, and approvals are obtained in accordance with project schedules.
- Maintain organized records of all permit-related documentation.
5. Fabrication, Material & Site Management
- Coordinate field measurements, fabrication drawings, and installation sequencing.
- Track fabrication progress, material lead times, and delivery schedules.
- Ensure fabricated materials meet contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Oversee on-site installation activities to verify quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Perform internal punch inspections and drive timely resolution of deficiencies.
- Coordinate client sign-offs, inspections, and punch list closeout.
6. Cost Control & Change Management
- Monitor project costs and maintain strict budget control.
- Identify, evaluate, and process change orders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Develop and manage schedules of values.
- Prepare and submit monthly pay applications and cost reports.
- Proactively identify cost risks and implement mitigation strategies.
7. Project Closeout
- Ensure all contractual deliverables are completed prior to project completion.
- Compile and submit all closeout documentation, including warranties and as-builts.
- Coordinate final inspections and confirm punch list completion.
- Request retainage release and ensure timely financial closeout.
8. Safety & Quality
- Enforce company safety policies and jobsite safety standards.
- Coordinate with field teams to ensure compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability across all project phases.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of project management experience in metal fabrication, structural steel, architectural metals, or related construction industries.
- Proven experience managing projects from shop drawings and fabrication through field installation and closeout.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Fabrication schedules and material coordination
- Client and subcontractor management
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Background in structural, mechanical, or civil engineering.
- Experience with steel detailing, fabrication workflows, and installation sequencing.
