Overview
The Hebrew High Director is the dynamic leader of Charlotte’s Hebrew High program, which serves Jewish high school students in grades 8-12 in Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, responsive, and energetic leader capable of efficiently managing all aspects of the program to ensure it runs smoothly, enhancing student engagement, driving program growth, and fostering a positive impact on teens' lives.
As the Director, you will work to create a program that appeals to both teens and their parents and build a staff that connects well with teens. You will play a crucial role in increasing enrollment by focusing on retention of current students as well as recruitment of new students through diligent and strategic outreach efforts. Your leadership will establish Hebrew High as a desirable program amidst the busy extracurricular schedules of teens, helping teens build a stronger affinity with the Jewish community and encouraging participation in other Jewish youth programming.
You will work closely with key stakeholders, including the education leaders and clergy teams of Temple Beth El and Temple Israel, as well as the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, donors, and community members. Your ability to connect and communicate effectively with both adults and teens will be essential in creating a collaborative and supportive environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Program Management and Growth: Oversee and execute the end-to-end registration process, create and maintain annual calendar, and develop and implement city-wide marketing strategies that recruit non-affiliated teens as well as teens from the synagogue partners.
- Curriculum Development: In collaboration with supervisors, design and implement the Hebrew High School curriculum for grades 8-12, ensuring that class offerings are varied, relevant, and student focused. Build on existing opportunities, such as groups using the Moving Traditions Curriculum, for teens to engage with Hebrew High outside of the typical evening classes format.
- Teacher Management: Hire, supervise, and manage the performance of all Hebrew High teachers, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
- Event Planning: Plan and execute all-school programs, including opening and closing day events, holiday celebrations, and other school-wide activities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the key point of contact for parents, teens, funders, and community leaders, ensuring open and effective communication.
- Logistics Coordination: Coordinate all logistical needs, including room reservations, custodial services, security, and supplies, to ensure smooth program operations.
- Financial Management: Maintain, store, and submit all financial records and reports, manage the program budget within the approved annual budget, and lead drafting on all grant applications and funding requests.
- Community Representation: Represent the program in inter-organizational activities within the Jewish community, such as the Jewish Teen Mental Health Roundtable and the Communitywide Purim Carnival.
- Hebrew for Credit: Coordinate Hebrew for credit course offerings, hire and supervise teachers, and liaise with school districts to ensure course credit requirements are met.
- Digital Communication and Presence: Create regular correspondence and updates for enrolled families and staff, maintain the Hebrew High website and social media presence, and submit periodic articles to the Charlotte Jewish News and other publications.
- Office Management: Maintain the Hebrew High office in good order and organization and respond to all inquiries on a timely basis.
- Reporting: Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) derived from program responsibilities and goals.

Qualifications
- College degree required.
- 3-5 years of experience in Jewish education, program administration, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience working with teens in an educational or communal setting.

Other Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment and occasionally in outdoor spaces for special events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and applicant must be able to lift or move items up to 25 lbs. Occasional overnight travel will be required to attend and chaperone teen programs. This role often requires flexible hours and work scheduling outside of traditional office hours. In-person attendance is required at all programs and meetings.
