Role Purpose
FCSL is seeking a commercially minded agribusiness leader to take charge of the business, strengthen its business model, execute its business plan, and build a profitable and scalable agricultural enterprise. The Business & Operations Manager will combine agribusiness expertise, commercial strategy and hands-on execution to identify viable market opportunities, build effective sales and distribution channels, strengthen farmer and partner networks, and translate business plans into measurable field-level results.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of FCSL's business plan, commercial strategy and operating model.
- Assess agricultural markets and identify commercially viable opportunities across seeds, fertilizers, agrochemicals, agricultural inputs and related services.
- Develop and scale sales and distribution channels through agro-dealers, distributors, cooperatives, farmer organisations and other agricultural networks.
- Build commercially productive relationships with farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, distributors, suppliers and institutional partners.
- Lead procurement, supply planning, inventory management and distribution to ensure product availability and efficient working-capital utilisation.
- Develop market linkages and partnerships that connect farmers and FCSL's networks to viable buyers, off-takers and institutional markets.
- Translate FCSL's extension, farmer-training and climate-smart agriculture capabilities into commercially viable programmes and partnerships.
- Evaluate new products, markets and agricultural value-chain opportunities and make commercially sound recommendations to Management.
- Establish practical systems for field operations, sales management, reporting, performance monitoring and accountability.
- Manage revenue, costs, margins, working capital and overall business performance.
- Build and lead capable commercial and field teams, setting clear targets and holding teams accountable for results.
- Provide Management with regular analysis of market conditions, business performance, opportunities, risks and growth priorities.
Requirements & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business, Economics, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
- 8+ years' practical experience in agribusiness, agricultural inputs, commercial agriculture, agricultural value chains or farmer-facing businesses.
- Strong practical understanding of Nigeria's agricultural sector and input markets, particularly seeds, fertilizers and agrochemicals.
- Demonstrated ability to assess agricultural markets and identify commercially viable business opportunities.
- Experience developing or executing business plans and translating strategy into field-level operations and commercial results.
- Proven experience in sales, distribution, procurement, supply chain and/or agricultural partnerships.
- Experience working with farmers, cooperatives, agro-dealers, distributors or agricultural institutions. .
- Demonstrated ability to build teams, manage field operations and drive measurable performance.
