Duties
- Develop and implement comprehensive curriculum plans that promote literacy, mathematics, physical development, social-emotional learning, and language development aligned with Wake Pre-K and North Carolina Early Learning Standards.
- Create engaging lesson plans using developmentally appropriate practices and evidence-based instructional strategies that support all areas of child development.
- Foster a positive, nurturing classroom environment that encourages curiosity, independence, creativity, and school readiness.
- Manage classroom behavior through positive guidance, individualized behavior support, and relationship-based practices.
- Support children with diverse learning needs by implementing inclusive teaching strategies, early intervention practices, and accommodations when appropriate.
- Conduct ongoing observations and assessments using approved screening and assessment tools to monitor children's progress and guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate student records, portfolios, and documentation as required by Wake Pre-K and licensing agencies.
- Collaborate with families, administrators, specialists, and teaching partners to support each child's developmental and educational goals.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain all required certifications and training.
- Ensure compliance with Wake Pre-K, North Carolina Child Care Licensing, and all state and federal regulations.
- Uphold mandated reporting responsibilities and maintain the highest standards of child health, safety, and welfare.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required in Birth-Kindergarten Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field that meets North Carolina Birth-Kindergarten teacher qualification requirements.
- If you do not hold an active B-K license, willingness to enroll in an approved B-K program prior to employment, is required.
- An active North Carolina Birth-Kindergarten (B-K) Teaching License is preferred. Applicants who do not currently hold a B-K license must be willing to enroll in an approved North Carolina Birth-Kindergarten licensure program prior to employment.
- Previous experience teaching in a preschool, NC Pre-K, Wake Pre-K, or licensed childcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of child development, early childhood instructional practices, classroom management, and lesson planning.
- Experience implementing curriculum aligned with early learning standards and promoting kindergarten readiness.
- Knowledge of literacy development, mathematics instruction, social-emotional learning, and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Familiarity with special education, inclusion strategies, and early intervention services.
- Ability to effectively assess children's progress and use assessment data to individualize instruction.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with families, colleagues, and community partners.
- Understanding of North Carolina child care regulations, mandated reporting laws, and child welfare policies.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Teaching Strategies GOLD, Creative Curriculum, or similar early childhood assessment and curriculum tools.
