A leading renewable energy owner/operator is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to drive technical execution across utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects from late-stage development through commissioning and operational turnover throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of EPC execution, technical problem solving, project delivery, and cross-functional leadership. You’ll play a critical role in shaping major renewable infrastructure projects while influencing engineering standards and best practices across a growing portfolio.
- Lead engineering execution for utility-scale renewable energy projects through development, construction, commissioning, and operations handoff
- Serve as the primary technical authority for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives, engineering standards, and commercial requirements
- Oversee EPC engineering deliverables including design reviews, constructability reviews, IFC packages, and as-built documentation
- Support pre-construction planning, technical risk assessments, layout optimization, and cost evaluations
- Drive engineering quality, consistency, and technical governance across projects
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, specifications, and lessons-learned initiatives
- Ensure compliance with utility requirements, NERC standards, ISO requirements, and applicable regulations
- Support EPC, BOP, interconnection, and equipment procurement activities from a technical perspective
- Lead technical evaluations during RFP and vendor selection processes
- Identify and mitigate technical, commercial, and execution risks throughout the project lifecycle
- Support technical due diligence activities for acquisitions and financing efforts
- Act as a senior technical interface between internal teams, EPC contractors, utilities, consultants, and equipment manufacturers
- Provide technical leadership during construction, commissioning, energization, and issue resolution activities
- Support successful project turnover through performance validation and operational readiness
- Mentor junior engineers and help coordinate engineering resources across multiple projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience
- 7+ years of experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy or power generation projects
- Strong technical knowledge of solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage systems
- Experience supporting EPC execution, major equipment procurement, and contractor management
- Familiarity with energy modeling and optimization tools such as PVsyst or similar platforms
- Understanding of PJM, SERC, utility interconnection processes, and transmission systems preferred
- Strong commercial awareness and experience interpreting technical contracts and project agreements
- Proven ability to lead complex technical scopes across multiple concurrent projects
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills
- Willingness to travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic region to support active project sites
