Salary Range: CL 26-27 ($68,581-$76,981)
*Starting salary commensurate with work experience, education, prior/present pay history and previous federal court experience. If hired at a CL 26, promotion to a CL 27, budget allowing and when determined qualified, would be available without further competition.
Position Overview
The Magistrate Judge Case Manager is located in the District Clerk=s Office and reports to the Operations Manager. The incumbent manages the magistrate judge's caseload and provides courtroom and other assistance through management of court calendars, attendance at court proceedings, and by recording minutes for both criminal and civil matters.
Representative Duties
Maintains a list of motions referred by the district judges; schedules these motions for hearings in a timely manner; attends the motion hearing; prepares and dockets minutes of hearing and dockets orders related to the rulings at such hearings.
Opens criminal cases in CM/ECF.
Attends all pre-trial criminal matters, takes minutes and records the proceedings on the docket.
Processes the appointment of attorneys when such services are authorized for defendants in criminal matters.
Schedules hearings and trials and sends notices to all counsel of record.
Assists in the management and movement of case-related matters on the magistrate judge=s docket after consensual referral, from assignment to disposition. Includes entering judgments.
Acts as a liaison between the Clerk=s Office, members of the bar and the Magistrate Judge to ensure that matters proceed smoothly and efficiently.
Acts as a liaison between various government agencies for the purpose of coordinating miscellaneous criminal matters.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess good judgment, maturity, and tact; be dependable, responsible and maintain confidentiality; be a proactive self-starter and demonstrate initiative in problem solving; be able to work quickly and harmoniously with others in a team-based environment; and present a poised, professional appearance and demeanor at all times. The successful candidate must also possess the ability to recognize the value of new computer features and their potential value to the work at hand; and ability to perform routine maintenance of various computer, video and audio systems.
General and Specialized Experience: The successful candidate must have at a minimum a high school diploma or the equivalent. Candidate must possess excellent skills in the use of automation systems, including knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office software and CM/ECF. Candidate also must have excellent organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, to be effective in both oral and written communication, and to handle multiple projects and tasks at one time. The candidate must have a positive attitude, deliver excellent customer service, and be service oriented.
Specialized Experience:
Bachelor's Degree; Experience working in a state or federal court. Knowledge of federal and local procedural rules, federal court operations and functions.
