Location: Songhorse is the premier at-home music lesson studio in the Roanoke Valley. All of Songhorse’s lessons are taught in students’ homes by traveling music teachers. We're looking for teachers in the Roanoke, Blacksburg, and Rocky Mount areas.

Responsibilities
Part-Time Music Teachers with Songhorse Music travel to students’ homes to give high-quality, engaging, joyful lessons to students in the Roanoke, Blacksburg, and Rocky Mount areas. As a Songhorse teacher, your schedule will be built based on the instruments you teach, the availability you decide upon (some after-school availability is required), and what areas you wish to serve. - Teach students to play a musical instrument using proven pedagogical techniques with a focus on joy-driven learning
- Instruct students in music theory and history as appropriate and necessary based on their progress on their instrument
- Develop and implement lesson plans in order to meet learning objectives that match the student’s individual goals
- Prepare students for any recitals, competitions, and exams by collaborating with the student to select repertoire and polish pieces to be performance-ready
- Frequently evaluate student progress and provide positive, constructive feedback to help students learn and grow
- Encourage students to complete theory assignments and practice time outside of lessons, but be understanding if their schedules prevent them from doing so
- Teach students and parents about instrument care and recommend solutions when problems arise
- Attend select music teacher training sessions and any relevant Songhorse meetings
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and Songhorse support staff
- Drive safely to student houses to teach lessons; submit a mileage log every month for travel reimbursement; maintain a safe, reliable vehicle; and maintain an active driver’s license and minimum insurance requirements throughout the duration of your employment
Qualifications
- Demonstrably high level of skill on the instrument(s) you plan to teach including proficiency/competency in sight-reading, music theory, relevant music history, and knowledge of technique and approaches to performing and performance anxiety.
- Experience performing publicly on the instrument(s) you plan to teach (i.e. college recitals, local gigs, etc.).
- Valid Driver’s License & minimum auto insurance
- Preferred, but not required: proven experience teaching the instrument(s) you plan to teach either in one-on-one lessons or group settings. Those without teaching experience will be trained by Songhorse.
- Preferred, but not required: Bachelor’s degree in music, music education, music performance, or a related field. Applicants without degrees in these fields may be required to provide additional audition materials and will be trained by Songhorse.
