Cellar Intern
Join Chaddsford Winery’s production team as a seasonal Cellar Intern and experience harvest through craftsmanship and teamwork. In this entry-level role, you’ll be hands-on with essential cellar tasks, including performing barrel and tank work, assisting with bottling operations, and meticulously maintaining tanks and equipment, among other duties. You'll work closely with our winemaking team, learning foundational skills in fermentation, blending, grape processing, and cellar operations.
The Cellar Intern performs routine tasks under specific instructions and established procedures, requiring strong written and verbal communication skills, basic math skills, flexibility, good judgment, a positive attitude, and a commitment to producing quality work.
The harvest experience is physically demanding and may require long hours, but it's a great opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience in the winemaking industry. This seasonal position requires regular availability through December 2026.

Essential Duties (including, but not limited to):
- Performs basic barrel & tank work under guidance: cleaning, blending, racking, filling, disgorging, topping, additions, stirring, etc.
- Performs fermentation support under guidance: monitors Brix, temperature, pH, pump-overs, punch-downs, and transfers
- Performs bottling line tasks in various workstations under guidance: operates and sanitizes filters, cleans hoses and fittings
- Maintains cellar cleanliness and sanitization: cleans tanks, barrels, equipment, crush-pad, and workspaces while complying with the respiratory requirements for application of SO2
- Responsible for the proper setup, use, and care of all cellar equipment
- Adheres to all established safety and quality guidelines
- Communicates effectively with coworkers and supervisors
- Helps move bins, pallets, and barrels; pitch in wherever needed
- Accepts additional duties as assigned to keep harvest on track

- Must have a genuine positive attitude and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Maintains a professional image whenever representing the winery
- Takes initiative: anticipates needs, flags issues, and suggests improvements
- Must have flexibility with scheduling and willingness to work various schedules
- Will require occasional overtime and weekend work as needed. May also require on-call status for emergencies, including some extended hours, weekends, and holidays as the demands dictate
Physical Requirements:
- Requires considerable physical activity: standing, walking, bending, reaching, twisting, climbing ladders, shoveling. Ability to lift and carry 50lbs
- Ability to move around the entire production building throughout the day. Most work will be inside a production facility, where ear protection, safety shoes, and eye protection may be required
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, climb over and under obstacles, and generally move about in a warehouse and manufacturing environment while inspecting, observing, and managing operations
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, heights, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
Working Conditions: This role involves routine exposure to outdoor conditions, including bees, yellow jackets, wasps, and other flying insects, outdoor temperatures, and all weather conditions. Work also requires the ability and willingness to climb ladders and work at elevated heights as part of the regular job duties.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
