The Director of Facilities embodies our core values of Growth, Connection, and Integrity while leading the Facilities team to execute on company priorities, including exceptional member/guest experiences, exceptional team member experiences, and managing a sustainable business. They are the national-level operational and people leader for the Facilities Department within Movement. The Director ensures that we deliver exceptional experiences to members and guests by leading the Facilities team in maintaining our gyms.
The Director develops operational systems, plans for short-, medium- and long-term maintenance needs, and ensures effective execution by the department. The scope of Facilities department projects includes day-to-day maintenance and care, building upgrades, preventive maintenance, vendor management, project management, building emergency response, and execution of capital investment projects. As a people manager, the Director supports the Facilities team, including regional leaders and associates, to execute effectively on this scope of duties and supports growth and development of the individuals on the team.
The Director reports to the SVP of Operations and collaborates closely with Senior Directors, who are accountable for the experience we deliver regionally, including the condition of our gyms.
What you'll be doing as Director of Facilities:
- Providing oversight for Facilities projects in all markets, including supporting local teams, to ensure timely delivery of maintenance, care, and improvement projects.
- Connecting regularly with regional Facilities leaders through 1:1s and group meetings to provide support, expertise, coaching, troubleshooting, and professional development. Additionally, hosting regular skip-levels with Facilities Associates companywide to provide support and development.
- Developing systems, protocols, and policies that enable the Facilities team to execute their responsibilities successfully, in partnership with appropriate departmental and leadership stakeholders.
- Support development and management of the department budget, including collaborating with national, regional, and local leaders on budgetary needs.
- Contributing to capital improvement project planning, coordination and project management, including input on priority capital maintenance projects and scoping Facilities’ involvement in project delivery
- Supporting integration of new gyms into standard Facilities operations for any acquisitions or new builds by providing training and support to new gym teams
- Planning pro-actively for long-term facility care, including projects such as a national census of all major systems of each gym, or multi-year required maintenance planning
- Collaborating with national Operations leadership to ensure alignment with company priorities
- Traveling (approximately monthly) across Movement markets to support Facilities team, regional and gym leadership, and Facilities projects
- Reporting for Leadership, Operations, and Facilities on a regular cadence
Job Requirements
- Exceptional skill as a people-leader, demonstrated ability to provide exceptional team member experience; previous successful departmental or multi-site manager- or director-level experience. Demonstrated experience managing remote teams is a plus.
- Adaptable, solution-oriented, and able to prioritize effectively within a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Deep background and knowledge of management, maintenance, and care for complex buildings, which could include the following: familiarity with maintaining HVAC systems and other building systems, basic electrical/plumbing, construction skills, vendor management.
- IFMA certification or willingness to complete certification on the job
- Ability and willingness to learn the skills needed specifically for climbing gym maintenance and care, such as work-at-height, HVAC system care, climbing floor maintenance, construction skills, and ability participate in project work when needed. Prior experience in the climbing industry is a plus.
- Demonstrated administrative ability to maintain organized workflow and communications to all stakeholders. Ability to operate in or learn quickly key software necessary for the role such as Asana, MS Office (especially Excel).
- Demonstrated experience in managing budgets effectively.
- Based in one of Movement’s flagship markets: NYC, Baltimore/DC Area, Dallas, Denver, Bay Area.
- Ability to work in-person at gyms in home region regularly, approximately 50% of time, to have in-person presence with team and other leaders as well as support projects as needed.
- Ability to travel approximately monthly across Movement’s markets.
Additional Information
This is a salaried full-time position, with a starting hiring range of $90,000-$105,000, based on experience.
