The Medical Records Staff plays a critical role in managing and maintaining accurate and confidential patient health information. This position ensures that all medical records are properly documented, organized, and accessible to authorized healthcare professionals to support quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves meticulous attention to detail to verify the completeness and accuracy of records, facilitating smooth communication between departments. Additionally, the Medical Records Staff contributes to the protection of patient privacy by adhering to HIPAA and other relevant confidentiality regulations. Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.

Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.

Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.

Understanding of patient privacy laws, including HIPAA regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:

Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Medical Records Technician (CMRT).

Experience working in a post-acute care or long-term care healthcare setting.

Responsibilities:

Review, organize, and maintain patient medical records in both electronic and paper formats to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Retrieve and distribute medical records to authorized personnel in a timely manner to support clinical and administrative needs.

Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other privacy laws by safeguarding patient information and maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Assist in the coding and classification of medical diagnoses and procedures to support billing and reporting requirements.

Collaborate with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and external agencies to resolve discrepancies and update records as necessary.

Perform regular audits of medical records to identify and correct errors or omissions.

Maintain and update filing systems and databases to improve record accessibility and efficiency.

Support the implementation of new electronic health record (EHR) systems and provide training or assistance to staff as needed.
