Carl Bolander & Sons, a well-established earthwork and demolition contractor based in St. Paul, Minnesota is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing accounting team.
This position plays a critical role in supporting the financial success of our projects through billing, job-cost accounting, accounts receivable management, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working collaboratively across departments, and possess strong analytical and organizational skills.

Essential Responsibilities:
Project Accounting & Billing
- Prepare and process owner contract billings and Time & Material invoices.
- Work directly with customers to ensure timely payment and collection of outstanding receivables.
- Monitor and maintain accounts receivable for assigned projects.
- Prepare and distribute project cost reports for management, clients, and stakeholders.
- Track project costs and ensure accurate allocation of expenses to individual jobs.
- Analyze job costs and assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
Project Administration
- Coordinate subcontractor reporting requirements for assigned projects.
- Track subcontract billings, quotes, billing information, and project closeout documentation.
- Maintain project job files and ensure all supporting documentation is properly filed and retained.
- Assist with project setup, financial tracking, reporting, and project closeout activities.
Financial Operations
- Complete Bolander Aggregate Pit invoicing and customer statements.
- Support month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Perform additional accounting and financial duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required -
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting or financial experience.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred but not required-
- Construction industry accounting experience.
- Experience with job-cost accounting and project accounting.
- Experience using accounting and financial management software.
