Maintenance Kitchen Technician
Position Summary
The Maintenance Kitchen Technician is responsible for the preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and inspection of commercial kitchen equipment throughout the Rio Rancho Public Schools Student Nutrition Services Department. The position ensures cafeteria equipment remains safe, operational, energy efficient, and compliant with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Trade school or vocational training in refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related field.

Minimum of four (4) years of experience servicing and maintaining commercial kitchen equipment.

Minimum of two (2) years as either:
-
Journeyman Gas Fitter (JG License), or
-
Journeyman Refrigeration (JR License).
-
EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
-
EPA Clean Air Act Section 608 Certification.
-
HVAC Technician Certification.
-
OSHA Safety and Health Certification.
-
Forklift Certification.
-
Valid New Mexico Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
-
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
-
Ability to perform work that complies with all applicable electrical codes and safety standards.

The Maintenance Kitchen Technician shall:
Equipment Maintenance

Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections on all commercial kitchen equipment.

Troubleshoot equipment failures and restore equipment to operation in a timely manner.

Perform seasonal shutdown and startup of kitchen equipment to improve energy efficiency.

Clean kitchen ventilation systems.
Refrigeration Systems

De-ice refrigerators and freezers.

Set up and monitor refrigerator/freezer alarm systems.

Maintain walk-in refrigeration equipment.
Fire and Safety Systems
Coordinate inspections and service for:

Kitchen hood fire suppression systems.

Food truck suppression systems.
-
Grease trap cleaning and inspections.
-
Fire Marshal compliance requirements.
Contractor Coordination
Schedule and oversee contractors for:

Hood cleaning.
-
Fire suppression inspections.
-
Chemical dispensing systems.
-
Specialized equipment requiring licensed contractors.
-
Equipment beyond technician licensure.
Work Order Management
-
Enter, update, complete, and close all Student Nutrition Services work orders using the Brightly Work Order Management System.
-
Maintain accurate maintenance records.
-
Document repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
Collaboration
-
Work closely with other Maintenance Kitchen Technicians to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
-
Assist HVAC Technicians during seasonal changeovers as needed.
-
Assist warehouse staff with deliveries and warehouse operations when necessary.

Other Duties

Work Schedule

Work hours may be adjusted by the supervisor to meet operational needs.

Employee participates in an on-call rotation.

Employee must respond to emergency call-back assignments.

Salary and work year are established according to the adopted Rio Rancho Public Schools Staff Salary Schedule.
