Entry Level Estimating
The Entry Level Estimator position is a long-term opportunity for individuals who want to build a career in steel fabrication. This role assists with reviewing project drawings and specifications, performing material takeoffs, and preparing accurate cost estimates for potential projects.
Training will be provided for candidates who are dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working with numbers, willing to learn, and interested in growing with the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing structural and architectural drawings and project specifications
- Identifying the scope of work for structural and miscellaneous steel projects
- Performing material and labor takeoffs
- Calculating steel quantities, weights, and fabrication requirements
- Preparing accurate cost estimates and bid proposals
- Reviewing addenda, revisions, and project clarifications
- Organizing bid documents, drawings, specifications, and supporting information
- Requesting and reviewing pricing from material suppliers and subcontractors
- Coordinating with vendors regarding material, joist, decking, paint systems, galvanizing, erection, freight, and other project costs
- Entering and updating estimating information in internal systems
- Maintaining estimating reports, bid records, and project documentation
- Communicating with project managers, vendors, customers, and management
- Learning company estimating standards, pricing methods, and fabrication processes
- Identifying discrepancies, exclusions, and potential risks within bid documents
- Assisting with bid reviews and estimate handoffs for awarded projects
- Supporting the estimating department with upcoming bids and deadlines

- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, & Excel)
- The ability to read structural and architectural drawings, or the willingness to learn
- Ability to learn AI Software (ALKALI and LIFT)
- Good time management and organizational skills
- The ability to handle multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Clear and professional communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Interest in building a long-term career with the company
Experience with Tekla PowerFab, AutoCAD, Blue Beam, Trimble Connect is helpful but not required.

Employees in this role will receive hands-on training in drawing and specification review, material and labor takeoffs, cost estimating, vendor pricing, bid preparation, and internal estimating systems. Candidates who are dependable, willing to learn, and take ownership of their work can build a strong long-term career in estimating and grow into positions with greater responsibility within the company.
Pay: From $14.00 per hour
