Overview
IDEA McAllen is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Afterschool Robotics Teacher to lead students in engaging, hands-on robotics and STEM activities. The Robotics Teacher will provide students with opportunities to build, design, code, test, and improve robotic projects while developing problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and critical-thinking skills.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with students and can create a fun, safe, and structured learning environment for students with varying levels of robotics and technology experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, age-appropriate robotics and STEM lessons.
- Teach students the fundamentals of robotics, engineering, coding, and the design process.
- Guide students through hands-on projects involving the building, programming, testing, and improvement of robots.
- Provide instruction and support for students with different levels of robotics and coding experience.
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and perseverance.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Properly organize, maintain, and care for robotics equipment, computers, kits, and program materials.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback and support to help students improve their skills.
- Prepare students to demonstrate their projects through showcases, presentations, challenges, or robotics competitions when applicable.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding program updates, student progress, and concerns when necessary.
- Collaborate with afterschool staff and school leadership to support program goals and student participation.
- Maintain accurate student attendance and follow all afterschool program procedures.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students during all program activities.
- Adhere to all IDEA McAllen policies and procedures related to student safety, behavior, and program expectations.
Qualifications
- Experience working with robotics, STEM, engineering, computer science, coding, or a related area is preferred.
- Experience working with school-aged students in a classroom, afterschool program, camp, club, or similar setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with robotics platforms, coding programs, or educational technology is a plus.
- Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and age-appropriate manner.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate students and create engaging hands-on learning experiences.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Willingness to learn new robotics platforms, software, and curriculum as needed.
- Must complete all required background checks and clearances.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College coursework or a degree in Education, Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, STEM, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Relevant robotics, coding, engineering, or STEM experience may substitute for formal education.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move around the classroom for extended periods.
- Ability to assist students with hands-on building and robotics activities.
- Ability to set up, organize, and store robotics equipment and program materials.
- Ability to lift and move program equipment and supplies as needed.
