Employee will be required to fulfill multiple responsibilities and duties in order to learn and grow as much as possible into the jobs around the shop. Scenic Carpenter/Fabrication shop team member e will work closely with the Head Carpenter and Sculptor to fine tune their skills and make adjustments to work best in the applications of Provost Displays. Candidates main responsibilities will be around the thermoforming machine and assisting in productions of plastic and fiberglass scenery and props. In addition to working with the Head Sculptor and Carpenter, the employee will assist in other daily shop work.
Qualifications
- The ideal applicant must have a comprehensive knowledge of traditional scenic construction techniques, and an ability to understand and build from both design and technical drawings
- Have general working knowledge of the operation of power tools
- Completed some schooling within an art department. Preferred BA or BS in Fine Arts/Theatre Arts (not required)
- Applicant must be able to lift and carry heavy scenery, materials and climb ladders
- Must have a positive attitude with strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Valid Driver's License
- Forklift experience is helpful but not a requirement.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain thermoforming machine.
- Work alongside Head Carpenter/Sculptor on various mold making projects. Using a variety of materials such as High-Density Urethane Foam, MDF, Plywood, Fiberglass, Urethane Resins.
- Measure, cut, sand and assemble parts under the guidance of Head Carpenter
- Read and translate shop drawings
- Assist in Vacuum Form Shop as needed. Will include but is not limited to setting up machinery for production runs of plastic products, assist machine operator during productions.
- Trim various plastic sheets with utility knife, routers and saws.
- Assist in keeping the shop neat and organized
