Position Summary
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating the supply of materials, components, and equipment required to support fabrication projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring materials are procured accurately, cost-effectively, and delivered on schedule to support production demands.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of industrial materials, supplier negotiations, and supply chain processes. This individual will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure purchased materials meet project specifications and company standards.
In addition, the Purchasing Agent will maintain supplier relationships, monitor inventory levels, track purchase activity, and support continuous improvement initiatives that drive cost savings and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to procure materials and components while maintaining compliance with company and project requirements.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to optimize cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to determine material specifications and procurement requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing activities to support fabrication schedules.
- Track purchase orders, monitor deliveries, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Ensure purchasing practices align with ASME requirements and Paget policies.
- Stay informed on market conditions, supplier capabilities, and industry trends to support strategic purchasing decisions.
- Communicate effectively with the Purchasing Manager and internal teams to maintain efficient procurement operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of purchasing, procurement, or buying experience required.
- Secondary education, technical training, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience in metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing preferred.
- Knowledge of materials purchasing and supply chain processes.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
