The Fountain Valley Senior Center is a community-based activity and resource center—not a healthcare, medical, assisted living, nursing, memory care, hospice, or adult day care facility. The Center exists to enhance the quality of life for older adults by providing opportunities for recreation, education, wellness, social engagement, volunteerism, transportation services, nutrition programs, and community connection.
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Fountain Valley Senior Center and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, financial stewardship, fundraising, marketing, community relations, and human resources management.
Working in close partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director advances the organization’s mission, ensures long-term financial sustainability, strengthens community partnerships, and fosters a positive, accountable, and high-performing workplace culture.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial Management and Sustainability
- Develop and administer the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
- Monitor revenues and expenditures to ensure the organization’s financial stability.
- Provide regular financial reports, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to the Board.
- Identify opportunities to diversify revenue sources and mitigate financial risk.
- Ensure compliance with all financial policies, grant requirements, audits, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Support the Finance Committee in long-range financial planning and reserve development.
Fundraising and Resource Development
- Lead all fundraising efforts, including annual campaigns, major gifts, sponsorships, special events, planned giving, and donor stewardship.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy with measurable goals and outcomes.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, service organizations, and community partners.
- Research, pursue, and oversee grant opportunities, ensuring timely reporting and compliance.
- Partner with the Board of Directors to expand philanthropic support and community investment.
Marketing, Communications, and Community Relations
- Serve as the primary ambassador and spokesperson for the organization.
- Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to increase community awareness, participation, and financial support.
- Oversee branding, public relations, advertising, social media, website content, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Represent the organization at community meetings, public events, civic organizations, and partner agencies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local governments, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, and funding agencies.
- Promote the organization’s mission, programs, and community impact.
Human Resources and Organizational Leadership
- Recruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff in accordance with Board-approved personnel policies.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable workplace culture.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, workplace safety standards, and personnel policies.
- Lead employee performance management, professional development, succession planning, and staff retention initiatives.
- Collaborate with department managers to establish organizational goals and performance expectations.
- Support volunteer recruitment, engagement, recognition, and retention.
Strategic Leadership and Governance
- Partner with the Board of Directors to implement strategic plans and organizational priorities.
- Provide professional recommendations and information to support Board decision-making.
- Identify emerging opportunities, challenges, and service gaps affecting seniors and the organization.
- Develop partnerships and initiatives that advance the mission and long-term growth of the organization.
- Ensure organizational compliance with all federal, state, local, and contractual requirements.
- Cultivates meaningful connections with members, strengthens the Center’s sense of community, and expands membership through proactive outreach and engagement.
Operational Oversight
- Provide overall leadership and oversight of programs, services, facilities, transportation, and support operations.
- Ensure services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational goals.
- Monitor organizational performance through measurable outcomes and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit, governmental, healthcare, senior services, or community-based organization.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor development, grant management, and revenue generation.
- Demonstrated strong financial management and budgeting experience.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing organizational culture and human resources functions.
- Strong marketing, public relations, and community engagement skills.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors, community partners, donors, volunteers, and government agencies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and organizational management systems.

Office Manager, Transportation Dispatcher and Drivers, Maintenance Manager, program staff, volunteers, and other positions assigned.
Pay: $65,743.83 - $79,175.37 per year
