Duties
- Conduct DOT-mandated urine specimen collections following strict chain-of-custody procedures, ensuring specimen integrity and confidentiality.
- Perform breath alcohol tests using approved devices, adhering to all federal and state regulations.
- Verify the identity of donors and explain testing procedures clearly to ensure understanding and cooperation.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all specimen collections, test results, and related activities in laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Transport specimens securely to designated laboratories while maintaining proper handling protocols.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and aseptic techniques during specimen collection.
- Communicate effectively with clients, drivers, and supervisors to coordinate testing schedules and address any concerns promptly.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in specimen collection, phlebotomy, or clinical laboratory work is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, biological sample management, and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), medical terminology, and specimen processing techniques.
- Certification as a Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) from an approved agency is required; DOT training certification is a plus.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to specimen collection and breath testing.
- Ability to perform venipuncture or spinal tap procedures is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to travel frequently using company vehicle or personal transportation.
