JOB This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of city roads and streets. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES • Participates in a variety of snow and ice removal operations, on call 24/7 during winter months, operating 12 hour shifts 7 days a week during snow and ice fighting operations.
- Operates a backhoe, front-end loader, motor grader, and other heavy equipment.
- Makes asphalt street repairs with paver, roller, durapatcher, hotbox and cold mix patch; seals cracks.
- Operates brine making equipment.
- Operates a street sweeper to clean city streets.
- Installs traffic signs and pavement markings.
- Operates tractor and bush hog to maintain rights-of-way.
- Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Sets up and assists in traffic control at work sites.
• Performs related duties. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION • Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and right-of-way maintenance.
- Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
- Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment and the computerized controls/devices in the equipment.
