Position Summary
PORT is seeking a hands-on Lighting Control Technician to install, commission, program, maintain, and troubleshoot lighting control systems in complex, high-visibility environments.
You will work at the intersection of field execution, system programming, creative intent, and client service - making sure every system is safe, documented, reliable, and ready to perform.
This role is a strong fit for a technically curious problem-solver who can move confidently between drawings, wiring, networks, control interfaces, programming, live-event pressures, and conversations with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What you'll do
- Install lighting control systems in accordance with drawings, specifications, project requirements, industry standards, and site safety rules.
- Verify control components, wiring, interfaces, labeling, and related equipment for completeness and commissioning readiness.
- Commission, program, configure, and test scenes, zones, schedules, presets, sequences, fixtures, dimming systems, and integrated controls.
- Translate the creative and functional intent of lighting designers, architects, directors, project stakeholders, and end users into reliable system operation.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving control signals, programming, wiring, networks, fixtures, user interfaces, power, and integration points.
- Perform service visits, inspections, preventive maintenance, system evaluations, and technical follow-up for new and existing clients.
- Coordinate with project managers and field teams on progress, site conditions, material needs, open items, and technical risks.
- Train end users and technical staff on system operation, maintenance expectations, and basic troubleshooting.
- Maintain accurate installation records, commissioning results, programming notes, service reports, punch lists, and handoff documentation.
Where you'll make an impact
Projects may include theatrical and performance venues, sports and concert arenas, hotels and hospitality spaces, interior and exterior architectural environments, and facilities supporting live productions.
What you bring
- Demonstrated experience installing, commissioning, programming, configuring, maintaining, or troubleshooting lighting control systems.
- Working proficiency with lighting control programming and configuration, including industry-standard control methods and protocols.
- Strong, systematic troubleshooting skills and the composure to respond to time-sensitive technical challenges.
- Ability to read and follow drawings, design specifications, project documentation, and technical requirements.
- Clear communication and collaboration skills with project teams, clients, designers, architects, directors, users, and technical staff.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, organization, and follow-through.
- Adaptability across changing project settings, schedules, site conditions, and customer needs.
- Valid driver's license and ability to commute independently to work and job locations.
- Availability to occasionally work nights and weekends based on project, performance, event, or service needs.
How success will be measured
- Safe, accurate, standards-compliant installations.
- Successful commissioning and dependable system performance before handoff.
- Responsive troubleshooting and maintenance that improve system reliability and longevity.
- Clear client training, professional service, and practical technical guidance.
- Complete, organized documentation that supports future service and knowledge transfer.
- Continued growth in control platforms, programming, protocols, integration, and advanced troubleshooting.
