The Role
We are looking for a high-level Senior Estimator who knows the Arizona and broader Southwest drywall market cold. This is a senior seat for someone who has personally estimated large, complex commercial projects — including single projects north of $20 million — as a drywall/wall-and-ceiling subcontractor. You will own bids end to end, keep your eye on the market and our pipeline, mentor newer estimators, and protect margin through disciplined, highly detailed takeoffs and scope review. Proficiency in Plexxis is required.
What You’ll Do
Estimating & Takeoff
- Lead full-scope estimates: for framing, drywall, acoustical and specialty ceilings, exterior framing, insulation, doors, and paint on commercial, build-out, and tenant-improvement projects — including large, complex jobs $20M+ in value.
- Produce detailed quantity takeoffs: and labor/material pricing from drawings, specifications, addenda, and RFIs with 100% command of project scope.
- Own bid strategy: — prepare proposals, scope letters, qualifications, inclusions/exclusions, alternates, and value-engineering options that win profitable work.
- Solicit and level: subcontractor and supplier pricing, ensuring complete and competitive coverage on every bid.
Market & Pipeline Awareness
- Look out to the market: — track upcoming bid opportunities, competitor activity, and material cost trends (gypsum, steel studs, ceilings) that affect pricing across the AZ/Southwest region.
- Forecast and manage backlog: — recognize peaks and dips in the pipeline and help adjust the estimating effort to keep work coming in.
Systems — Plexxis (Required)
- Full proficiency in Plexxis: and Winbid estimating — takeoff, bid-to-budget, revision history, and reporting — with the ability to train others and improve how WCP uses the platform.
- Maintain clean documentation: and a strong bid-to-budget hand-off so nothing is lost between estimating, project management, and accounting.
Leadership & Relationships
- Mentor and develop: newer estimators — review and ensure accuracy of their bids and build their judgment and client relationships.
- Build and maintain GC and client relationships: — communicate, follow up, sell WCP’s capabilities, and represent the company in scope reviews and preconstruction.
- Support job hand-offs: to Project Managers through buyout and remain available as a resource as projects ramp up.
- Review contract language: and flag concerns for management review.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of estimating experience as a drywall / wall-and-ceiling subcontractor (metal framing, drywall, ceilings, and related interior/exterior scopes).
- Proven experience estimating large, complex single projects north of $20 million.
- Proficiency in Plexxis (and Winbid estimating) is required.
- Strong knowledge of the Arizona and/or Southwest commercial construction market.
- Highly detailed and organized, with outstanding accuracy and the ability to manage multiple bids in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Expert at reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, schedules, and contracts.
- Solid command of construction budgets, scheduling, scope review, and cost trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with digital takeoff and Bluebeam (or similar), plus bid-management platforms (BuildingConnected, ConstructConnect/iSqFt, SmartBid, or Procore).
- Experience across education, healthcare, hospitality, and retail sectors.
- Familiarity with prevailing-wage / public-works requirements and large-project bonding.
- Experience mentoring or leading an estimating team.
- Degree in Construction Management or related field (equivalent hands-on experience carries equal weight).
