Position Purpose:
To provide a successful, high quality and competitive experience for the student-athletes as it relates to the goals of the department and college.
Assist in developing a competitive intercollegiate Track and Field Sprints team that reflects Lane’s Vision, Mission, and Values while demonstrating a strong work ethic, high levels of integrity, and honesty.
Essential Functions:
- Assistant coaching responsibilities for Track & Field will include pre-season, in-season, post-season and out of season responsibilities.
- Coaching responsibilities include training, supervising student-athletes, maintaining a working knowledge of the rules governing the sport to be coached, maintaining statistics, assist with fund-raising and recruiting, maintaining athletic equipment, facilities and supplies, and travel.
- Provide leadership in the personal, athletic and academic development of student-athletes.
- Assist in developing strategies to actively recruit and retain an eligible Track & Field team roster of student-athletes throughout each academic year as determined in consultation with the Athletic Director.
- Assist in developing and seeking fund-raising to support the success of the Track & Field program.
- Ensure adherence to all Lane Community College, Athletics Department, Northwest Athletic Conference, and other regulatory agencies rules, policies and procedures by the Track & Field programs student-athletes, coaches and staff.
- Successfully assist in developing and implementing game strategy, position assignments and plan all practice/training sessions.
- Work cooperatively with other sport Coaches and support staff to ensure proper scheduling, gym usage and care of facilities.
- Ensure and actively promote positive reinforcement and encouragement.
- Participate and work collaboratively and respectfully in a team environment.
- Develop and apply skill assessments and evaluation methods relevant to sprinting.
- Confer with students on athletic evaluation results.
- Comply with Oregon Department of Motor Vehicle laws while driving college van/vehicles to and from events; both in the evening and daytime.
- Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to the Dean of Health Professions, Health, Physical Education and Athletics and works under the general supervision of the Athletic Director.
Work is performed independently using previously learned knowledge and professional judgment, according to College policies and applicable laws, NWAC and other regulatory agencies.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
- Work safely; may work in inclement weather; ability to lift or transport forty (40) pounds with or without assistance; will stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Safe operation of motor vehicle for travel and field maintenance as needed.
