Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Referral Coordinator / Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for requesting authorizations and checking patient eligibility.
Duties:
- Obtaining prior authorizations
- Receive, review, and process referral requests from providers, ensuring all necessary information is included (e.g., patient demographics, diagnosis, requested services).
- Verify patient insurance coverage, including eligibility, benefits, and pre-authorization requirements, collaborating with insurance companies as needed.
- Answering phone calls and speaking with patients over the phone regarding appointment openings, cancellations, and referrals.
- Sending referral forms to specialty physicians on behalf of patients.
- Upload documents related to patient referrals into electronic medical record.
- Check patient eligibility
- Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments.
- Review and verify accuracy of billing data and revise any errors in practice management system.
- Assist with front desk duties such as scheduling, triaging, taking messages, confirming appointments etc.
- Post payments to patient accounts.
- Follow up on claim status and pull EOB’s from payer portal.
- Review accounts for insurance eligibility for patient follow-up.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years experience
- Prior authorization experience
- Prior experience with checking patient eligibility
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, DRG, and CPT coding
- Experience working in a medical office setting
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers
