Full Job Description
Phelps/Maries County Health Department has an opening for Clerical Office Support. Clerical Support will work in a clinic setting assisting the general public with the following services for but not limited to: WIC, immunizations, TB testing, STI/STD testing, environmental services, vital records (birth/death certificates), and other laboratory services.
Clerical Office Support will assist with public health emergency preparedness and response activities as needed.
Clerical Office Support will perform duties assigned by WIC Coordinator, Lead Public Health Nurse, Office Manager, and/or Health Director as needed.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Basic computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- The ability to communicate effectively with both peers and patients/clients through written and oral communication.
- The ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA.
- Strong organizational skills.
- The ability to work with and maintain effective working relationships with peers, community partners, patients, and other clients in a culturally diverse work environment.
- The ability to multitask and work in a sometimes, busy environment with frequent interruptions/distractions.
- Confidence and the ability to comfortably discuss sometimes personal matters with patients/clients related to health, finances, living situations, etc. in a discreet and confidential manner.
Job Duties (but not limited to):
- Greeting patients/clients upon arrival.
- Assisting patients/clients with check-in.
- Entering patient/client demographic information into EHR (electronic health record), sometimes working between multiple databases for one patient/client.
- Collecting insurance information and fees for service from patients/clients.
- File patient/client records.
- Assist clients needing WIC services working with the Missouri WIC program.
- Assist patient needing or inquiring about immunizations working with the Missouri ShowMe Vax immunization program.
- Assist clients with birth/death certificates working with the Missouri Vital Records program.
- Assist patients/clients with environmental matters such as lodging, food permits, complaints, etc.
- Assist patients/clients checking in for other nursing services such as: TB testing, STI/STD testing and treatment, blood pressure checks, heigh/weight checks, hemoglobin checks, and other lab services.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous medical office experience preferred, but not required
- Valid driver’s license
- CPR/AED certification preferred, but not required
- Must pass background check
Physical Demands: Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Schedule:
- Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
- Evenings and/or weekends as needed: Typically for community events and/or trainings.
