What You'll Do
- Direct and coordinate maintenance, installation, and operation activities across our transmission and distribution systems
- Instruct and lead powerline technicians, equipment operators, and contractors on safety, construction, and maintenance procedures
- Coordinate work performed by contractors
- Respond to emergency powerline outages, including 24-hour on-call availability
- Coordinate clearances with PacifiCorp, Bonanza Operations, and member systems
- Apply energized and de-energized work procedures and ensure OSHA compliance
- Inspect and maintain transmission/distribution lines including hot sticks, tools, and equipment
- Lead the Cooperative's Transmission Line Vegetation Management Program
- Prepare and manage the annual department budget
- Perform inspection and testing of Bulk Electric System (BES) elements and maintain documentation to ensure NERC Reliability Standards compliance
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records, drawings, and data sheets, and participate in department planning and scheduling meetings
- Manage inventory and control of explosives, and direct blasting operations for boiler de-slagging and transmission projects
- Build and enforce department standards for workmanship, safety, and housekeeping
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 7 years' experience as a journeyman (or equivalent), including 2 years in a supervisory role for transmission line maintenance or construction on steel towers up to and including 345 kV
- Ability to supervise both energized and de-energized maintenance up to 345 kV
- Qualified to maintain and repair transmission, substation, and distribution equipment
- Strong ability to read schematics, diagrams, instruction manuals, plan and profile drawings, and USGS maps
- Valid Utah Class B commercial driver's license with hazardous materials endorsement
- Training in emergency rescue, CPR, and Medic First Aid
- Qualified Climber certification
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
- Working knowledge of word processing, database, spreadsheet, and communication software
Working Conditions
This role combines office work with significant time in the field — including extreme weather and work at heights of 200 feet or more on high-voltage systems. Supervisors are subject to call-outs at any hour, may need to work extra hours or overtime, and should be ready to travel to various locations for training and assignments.
Physical Requirements
- Lift or move up to 80 lbs.
- Stand in work position on towers, poles, aerial ladders, or ground locations, and walk into areas not suitable for driving
- Work from towers, poles, aerial ladders, and ground locations, including bending and stooping in awkward positions
- Climb wood or steel structures 200 feet and above
- Strong eye-hand coordination for hand tools, hot sticks, hoists, and driving
- Proficiency in rigging and working knowledge of emergency rescue, first aid, and CPR
