Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) on a per diem PRN basis. The ideal candidate will possess extensive critical care experience, including PACU and hospital settings, with a strong focus on patient assessment, airway management, and recovery from anesthesia. This role offers an opportunity to deliver high-quality post-operative care in a dynamic environment, supporting patient recovery and safety through expert nursing practices.
Duties
- Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, consciousness levels, and overall condition during recovery from anesthesia.
- Administer medications, including pain management interventions such as opioid and non-opioid analgesics, ensuring adherence to prescribed protocols.
- Maintain aseptic technique during procedures such as IV insertions, suturing, and catheter care to prevent infection.
- Collaborate with surgical teams and physicians to coordinate patient care plans and discharge readiness.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding post-operative care instructions and recovery expectations.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Respond promptly to emergent situations such as airway compromise or acute pain episodes, applying advanced life support techniques when necessary.
Requirements
- Valid RN license in the state of practice with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred.
- 2+ years proven critical care experience in PACU hospital experience is required.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic for seamless documentation.
- Knowledge of pharmacology related to anesthesia recovery, pain management, and medication administration protocols.
- Strong assessment skills with the ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition rapidly.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, and individuals with developmental disabilities or memory care needs.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of patient safety and comfort.
