Morning Café Position | 6:30 AM – 11:30 AM

The Abernathy Hotel is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable Barista/Café Attendant to join our Food & Beverage team. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a boutique hotel environment where every guest interaction matters.
Our café serves hotel guests, Clemson visitors, and local residents each morning with specialty coffee beverages, breakfast items, and genuine Southern hospitality. If you love welcoming people, staying organized, and working in a fast-paced but friendly atmosphere, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
Every morning begins by preparing the café for service. You'll help create an inviting atmosphere while ensuring everything is stocked, clean, and ready for guests.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso beverages, breakfast items, and light food offerings
- Greet every guest warmly and provide exceptional customer service
- Learn our menu and confidently recommend food and beverage selections
- Operate the Toast point-of-sale system accurately
- Handle cash responsibly, including opening cash drawers, counting tills, balancing cash, and completing end-of-shift cash procedures
- Maintain proper food safety and sanitation standards
- Keep the café clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout your shift
- Complete opening, closing, and daily side work
- Bus and reset tables while maintaining a welcoming dining area
- Assist hotel guests with directions, hotel information, and recommendations around Clemson
- Work closely with teammates to ensure a seamless guest experience
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys working with people and has a naturally friendly personality
- Can provide outstanding customer service with a smile
- Is dependable and punctual—our guests count on us every morning
- Is comfortable handling cash and maintaining accurate drawer balances
- Has attention to detail and takes pride in cleanliness and organization
- Can work independently while also being a supportive team member
- Is able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- Previous coffee shop, restaurant, hotel, or customer service experience is preferred but not required—we're happy to train the right person.
Schedule
This position is focused on our morning café operation.
Typical shifts are:
- 6:30 AM – 11:30 AM
- Monday through Friday with weekend availability as business demands require.
- Additional Food & Beverage shifts, special events, and bar service opportunities may be available for team members interested in picking up extra hours.
