Job Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing direct perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in an ambulatory orthopedic surgery center. The OR RN functions as both a circulator and patient advocate, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality care throughout the perioperative process. This role requires knowledge of orthopedic procedures, sterile technique, infection prevention practices, and regulatory standards applicable to ambulatory surgery centers.
Duties
- Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments are sterile and ready for use.
- Assist in patient positioning and ensure proper monitoring of vital signs throughout the procedure.
- Act as the primary liaison between the surgical team and other hospital departments, facilitating communication and coordination.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control protocols during surgeries to prevent contamination.
- Collect and document data related to patient status, procedure details, and intraoperative events using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support the surgical team by passing instruments, suturing when necessary, and managing specimen handling.
- Monitor patient safety by observing physiological responses, vital signs, and providing immediate assistance in emergency situations such as acute trauma or critical care scenarios.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an OR Circulator or circulating nurse preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and infection control practices.
- Demonstrated ability to perform data collection accurately and analyze clinical information effectively.
- Experience with orthopedic and neurosurgery, preferably in an ASC setting.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are preferred.
- Skilled in suturing techniques and aseptic procedures; familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic is essential.
- Excellent patient care skills with a focus on safety, attention to detail, and teamwork in high-pressure situations involving acute care or trauma cases. Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
