Food Runner — La Mar Cocina Peruana, San Francisco
La Mar Cocina Peruana, created by acclaimed Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, is a high-volume seafood-focused restaurant on San Francisco's Embarcadero celebrating authentic Peruvian cuisine. We are looking for a Food Runner to join our front-of-house team.
The Food Runner is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of food and beverages from the kitchen and bar to the dining room, ensuring every dish reaches the guest at the correct temperature, with proper presentation and appropriate descriptions. This role works closely with the expo line, servers, bussers, and kitchen staff to maintain the pace and quality of service across all courses.
Essential Functions
Deliver all food courses from expo to the correct table within established timing standards (12 minutes for first and dessert courses; 10 minutes for additional courses after clearing). Carry up to two plates by hand or three to five plates by tray, with sharing spoons carried in a folded napkin. Verify that all dishes leaving the kitchen are reflective of recipes, garnished correctly, served at the right temperature, and that allergy tickets include allergy sticks before leaving expo. Check the KDS (Kitchen Display Screen) and mark items as done when plates leave. Deliver complimentary chips and sauce to every table after the first beverage is dropped, one portion per four guests. Describe each dish to the guest using the four-component standard: dish name, protein, cooking method, and sauce or seasoning — plus a temperature warning for sizzling items. Confirm that the table is properly marked before delivering; if not, return the course to expo or alert a team member. Place shared items in the center of the table, evenly distributed, with shared cutlery on the edge of the plate. For individual orders with seat numbers, deliver directly in front of the guest from the right at the 6 o'clock position without auctioning. Deliver birthday or special occasion desserts before other dessert items arrive. Assist with beverage running when food orders are not ready. Maintain awareness of allergen protocols and follow the restaurant allergy plan at all times. Support table maintenance, dish area flow, and general floor upkeep. Attend daily line-up meetings in full, pressed uniform. Greet all guests with warmth, using "Bienvenido" and the guest's name when known. Move with purpose, maintain open posture, and follow all safety and sanitation standards.
Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift across a multi-level restaurant, including stairs and uneven or slick surfaces. Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with variable noise, light, and temperature. Must be available for day, evening, and weekend shifts. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
