Position: Teacher on Special Assignment - Grades 6-12 Language Arts Instructional Support
Work Schedule: Full-time, 186 duty days
Start Date: August 31, 2026
Pay: Steps and lanes are in accordance with the teacher labor agreement

**TOSA positions are not permanent positions and teachers hired into this role will be required to return to the classroom at the end of the special assignment.
Required Qualifications:
-
Current MN teaching license in English Language Arts (ELA), grades 6-12
-
At least five years of effective instruction in English Language Arts
-
Teaching experience in secondary ELA
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Current MN teaching license in Reading
-
A mastery level of understanding of the Common Core State Standards for ELA
-
In-depth knowledge of a variety of reading and writing instructional strategies necessary to support the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts
-
Experience working with principals to support their instructional vision
-
Excellent skills in collaboration and working in partnership with principals and teachers
-
Ability to build strong relationships with school leaders, teachers, and district staff
-
Successful experience in leading and/or participating in Professional Learning Communities
-
In-depth knowledge of instructional strategies necessary to support the content area standards

Experience with standards-based instruction and assessment
-
Successful experience in leading professional development

Responsibilities:
-
Assist principals in monitoring the fidelity and implementation of the 6-12 English Language Arts programs through dialogue about best practices and analyzing student data
-
Work with administrators to ensure understanding of and promote the English Language Arts educational objectives
-
Work with C&I and building leadership to support Tier I core instruction
-
Work with principals and staff to develop effective literacy programs, including selecting materials, training teachers, and monitoring & adjusting programs to increase effectiveness
-
Support principals as they work with PLCs and individual teachers to interpret student data, using it to inform instruction, as well as designing and implementing formative and summative assessments

Assist and support teachers who are new to the district in ELA

Coordinate student data collection with Curriculum and Instruction to summarize student results
-
Continue to pursue personal professional growth through attendance at workshops, conferences, courses, and current relevant readings
-
Assist teachers in aligning curriculum and assessments to the content standards, intentional focus on probationary teachers
-
Assist in coordinating curriculum reviews including priority standards, common assessments, and identification of core resources
-
Support district curriculum writing projects.

Assist with credit recovery programming for the content area as needed
-
Assist with reviewing college courses for standards alignment
-
