Do you have experience working with diesel, hybrid, and electrified heavy equipment and are interested in teaching the next generation of technicians? Our Hybrid Diesel Equipment Technology (HDET) and Electric Vehicle & Energy Storage (EVES) programs are expanding to meet regional workforce demand. We are seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to teach courses supporting medium- and heavy-duty hybrid diesel and electric equipment used in transportation, construction, agriculture, and related industries. This is a 9-month position anticipated to begin August 2026. Courses taught may include, but are not limited to: Hybrid Diesel Equipment Fundamentals; Heavy Equipment Braking, Steering, and Suspension; Heavy Equipment Engine Repair; Electrical & Chassis Control; Drivetrains; Electrical Diagnostics; Climate Control & Thermal Management; High-Voltage and Hybrid Powertrain Systems. The primary duty of faculty members is to teach. In addition to teaching, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours, general responsibilities include but are not limited to: Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment of defined learning outcomesParticipate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methodsAssist in the articulation of courses within the divisionDevelop, integrate and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the Heartland Community College assessment protocolsRemain current in one's disciplineAdvocate for student persistence and pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staffManage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student HandbookServe the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial work environmentParticipate in program reviewThe hired individual may be expected to teach a range of courses as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Applicants are not required to have a formal degree, but must have: Minimum of 2,000 hours of successful work experience in diesel, heavy equipment, hybrid, or electrified vehicle systemsDemonstrated ability to teach or train others in technical environmentsAvailability to teach daytime and/or evening courses Ability to work effectively and inclusively with diverse populations of students, employees, and industry partners
