Our client is searching for a Lead Estimator to make a big impact on their team. This role is a hands-on leadership role responsible for preparing accurate construction estimates while guiding a small estimating team. This position leads estimate development from initial takeoff through final proposal, reviews team output for accuracy, and coordinates bid efforts across projects. They also work closely with project development, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to deliver competitive, well-structured bids, while also helping improve estimating processes and team performance. Work Model:
What You Will Do:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including quantity takeoffs and full proposal packages
- Lead and support a small team of estimators, managing workload, deadlines, and quality
- Review and validate estimates completed by other team members before final approval
- Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier bids
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed
- Collaborate with project development and operations to align scope and pricing
- Track actual project costs versus estimates to improve future accuracy
- Help develop and standardize estimating processes and best practices
- Support training and mentoring of estimating staff
- Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and project partners
What You Will Need to Be Successful:
- 5+ years of construction estimating experience with a general contractor
- Experience in commercial or industrial construction preferred
- Prior experience reviewing estimates or leading team efforts
- Strong understanding of takeoffs, bid packages, and subcontractor management
- Detail-oriented with the ability to identify errors and ensure estimate accuracy
- Ability to explain and execute a structured estimating process
- Comfortable working as a hands-on contributor while leading others
- Strong communication skills with internal teams and external partners
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; estimating software experience preferred (Sage a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred
