The Rend Lake Conservancy District is now accepting applications for a Golf Course Groundskeeper.
General Statement of Work:
Performs work involving the use of large and small equipment, including reel mowers, rotary mowers, zero-turn mowers, power rake, tractors, skid steer, dump trailers, loaders, trenchers, backhoes, trucks, and other maintenance equipment to maintain golf course standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Understands and implements cultural maintenance practices.

Cleans, maintains, and provides basic preventative maintenance on equipment as directed by his/her supervisor.

Reports equipment problems or failures to the Equipment Manager or Golf Course Superintendent immediately.

Practices and implements District safety protocols and procedures.
-
Adheres to OSHA regulations as it applies to safety.

Assists in project work performed on the golf course:
-
Assists in the construction of new greens, tees, and fairways
-
Grades and prepares soil base
-
Lays sod
-
Seeds tees, greens and fairways.
-
Mows greens, tees, aprons, fairways and roughs.
-
Sets tee markers, cups, and flagsticks on greens daily.
-
Waters and fertilizes tees, greens and fairways, and under direct supervision of a certified applicator, sprays chemicals on landscaped areas.

Operates sod cutter and spray rigs for greens and fertilizer spreaders.

Operates turf vac, skip-loader, fairway and rough aerifier, and boom sprayer for weeds in fairways and roughs.

Utilizes equipment to remove dirt, debris and other materials.

Performs other duties as required.
Desirable Training or Experience:
Minimum Job Requirements:

High school education
-
Three or more years of golf course maintenance experience
-
Possess a valid driver’s license
Skills and Abilities Required:
-
Good verbal and written communication skills
-
Ability to operate and repair irrigation equipment
-
Ability to spray golf course chemicals
-
Ability to maintain golf greens, including hand watering
-
Ability to operate mowing and other golf maintenance equipment.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, extreme weather conditions, and/or loud noises

Moderate physical activity. May require some heavy physical work; lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects in excess of 50 pounds.

Must be physically and mentally able to thoroughly complete the required tasks, in a timely and competent manner.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

Compensation

$27.20 per hour based on union wage scale after a one-year progression
