Don't want to be treated as a number? family owned, ma and pa shop is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Diesel Mechanic to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy-duty diesel engines and equipment. Your expertise will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of industrial machinery, farm equipment, and commercial vehicles. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse machinery, including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and tractor-trailers, utilizing your mechanical knowledge and hands-on skills to keep our operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics using OEM schematics and automotive diagnostics tools to identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in diesel engines and heavy equipment.
- Repair and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes (including air brake systems), suspensions, hydraulics, and steering components on various machinery such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and farm equipment.
- Conduct routine vehicle maintenance including oil changes, tire service, alignment checks, and HVAC system servicing to ensure optimal performance.
- Fabricate parts or modify existing components using welding, soldering, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet specific repair needs.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and wiring harnesses on heavy equipment and automotive vehicles to restore proper functionality.
- Assist with assembly or disassembly of machinery during repairs or upgrades while adhering to safety standards.
- Maintain detailed service records, complete repair reports accurately, and follow safety protocols during all repair procedures.
Qualifications
- Proven mechanic experience with a focus on diesel engine repair and heavy equipment maintenance.
- Dealership experience or extensive background working with OEM parts and schematics is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, air brake systems, transmissions, suspension systems, and electrical diagnostics.
- Skilled in fabrication techniques including welding and soldering; familiar with power tools and hand tools for precise repairs.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment such as excavators or cranes is a plus; experience with forklift operation is desirable.
- Familiarity with farm machinery and industrial equipment maintenance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills combined with a customer service mindset to communicate effectively with team members and clients.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting safely while working in various environmental conditions.
