Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support advanced cyber engineering activities for NNSA HQ OCIO Special Technologies. The ISSE will operate within an EOS-driven environment, contributing to quarterly Rocks, scorecard metrics, and team-aligned objectives. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to design innovative cybersecurity solutions in collaboration with senior cyber-SMEs, including guidance from the program’s Tier 3+ cybersecurity advisor.
The ISSE will solve complex cybersecurity challenges, develop technical solutions, support multi-lab assessments, and contribute to mission-critical security engineering for DOE/NNSA programs.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct advanced cyber engineering activities using modern toolsets and methodologies.

Collaborate with SMEs and program managers to design innovative solutions for complex cybersecurity challenges, including critical infrastructure, ICS security, and information security.

Develop and deliver cybersecurity training to domestic and international partners.

Provide cybersecurity expertise as part of multidisciplinary and multi-lab teams supporting DOE/NNSA’s DNN mission.

Develop software and technical solutions in support of GMS missions and sponsor requirements.

Engage frequently with cybersecurity experts to share knowledge, align on deliverables, and strengthen team outcomes.

Independently design technical solutions; analyze sponsor requirements; implement software and perform technical analyses.

Manage multiple concurrent tasks and stakeholder priorities to meet deadlines and program objectives.

Demonstrate expertise with Splunk, RSA, Tenable Nessus, and SELinux.

Apply strong understanding of ports, protocols, and services to support secure system and network design.

Assist architects and system developers in implementing appropriate security functionality aligned with agency policy and enterprise solutions.

Contribute to security planning, assessments, risk analysis, risk management, certification, and awareness activities.
Additional Responsibilities

Support audits, reviews, and compliance activities; manage findings and drive favorable outcomes.

Develop new policy, documentation, and training materials when required; negotiate adoption across contractor and federal stakeholders.

Ensure alignment with EOS expectations, including quarterly Rocks, scorecard metrics, and team accountability.
Required Qualifications

Experience performing cybersecurity engineering in federal or national security environments.

Strong technical background with Splunk, RSA, Tenable Nessus, SELinux, and secure network/system design.

Ability to design, document, and communicate complex cybersecurity solutions.

Experience supporting multi-disciplinary teams and mission-driven cybersecurity programs.

Strong understanding of ports, protocols, services, and secure system architecture.
