Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Director of Finance and Accounting located in Oak Park, IL. The Director will oversee financial planning, prepare and analyze financial statements, and ensure accurate financial reporting. They will be responsible for creating and managing budgets, monitoring financial performance, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing insights to support organizational decision-making.
Job Duties:
Financial Leadership & Organizational Stewardship
- Lead the organization’s financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Prepare and present monthly financial statements and variance reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Provide financial guidance to program leadership to support sound decision-making.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of public and private funding sources.
- Monitor cash flow to ensure operational stability.
Illinois State Grant & Compliance Oversight (Required)
- Oversee financial administration of Illinois state-funded grants.
- Manage and submit reimbursement requests through Illinois state grant reporting systems, including the GATA portal.
- Ensure compliance with the Illinois Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA).
- Oversee ICQ completion, indirect cost rate elections, and required fiscal reporting.
- Maintain documentation required for state monitoring and audits.
- Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and other applicable federal and state regulations.
Grant Budget Management & Program Support
- Partner with Program Directors and workforce development staff to monitor grant budgets.
- Track program expenditures against approved grant budgets.
- Ensure personnel and administrative expenses are properly allocated to funding sources.
- Support grant renewals and new funding applications with accurate financial data and projections.
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, and monthly financial close.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Ensure accurate grant-to-actual reconciliations.
- Supervise accounting personnel or outsourced financial services providers.
- Strengthen financial systems and reporting tools as needed.
Audit & Reporting
- Lead the annual independent audit process and Form 990 preparation.
- Prepare schedules and documentation required for external auditors.
- Address audit findings and implement corrective action plans.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to funders and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of nonprofit financial management experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Illinois state grant reporting systems, including GATA portal submissions, ICQ completion, and reimbursement processing.
- Experience managing reimbursement-based government grants.
- Strong knowledge of Illinois grant compliance requirements.
- Experience overseeing annual audits.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred
- CPA designation.
- Experience in workforce development, supportive housing, or human services organizations.
- Experience presenting financial reports to a Board of Directors.
Pay: $94,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
