Position Summary
The Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the service shop. This position manages the repair and maintenance of customer-owned equipment and company equipment, supervises shop personnel, coordinates repair schedules, ensures quality workmanship, and maintains a safe, organized, and productive work environment. The Shop Manager works closely with the Parts Department to ensure technicians have the necessary parts and materials to complete repairs efficiently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shop Operations
· Manage the daily workflow of the repair shop.
· Assign repair jobs based on technician experience and workload.
· Monitor repair progress to ensure timely completion.
· Prioritize emergency and high-priority repairs.
· Ensure all repairs meet company quality standards before equipment is returned to customers.
· Maintain accurate repair records and work orders.
Staff Supervision
· Supervise and support Small Engine Mechanics and Shop Assistants.
· Train, mentor, and evaluate shop employees.
· Schedule employee shifts and approve time off.
· Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism within the shop.
· Address employee performance and disciplinary issues when necessary.
Equipment & Repairs
· Oversee diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on:
o Lawn mowers
o Chainsaws
o Brush cutters
o Generators
o Pressure washers
o Water pumps
o Compact construction equipment
o Other small engine equipment serviced by Reliable Rentals
· Assist technicians with complex troubleshooting when needed.
· Verify all repaired equipment is tested and functioning properly before release.
Parts & Inventory
· Coordinate with the Parts Department to ensure timely availability of repair parts.
· Monitor shop supplies, tools, lubricants, and consumables.
· Recommend parts and equipment purchases when necessary.
· Help reduce unnecessary parts usage and shop waste.
Customer Service
· Communicate repair estimates, timelines, and completed work with customers.
· Explain repair recommendations and maintenance requirements.
· Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
· Ensure customers receive quality workmanship and excellent service.
Safety & Shop Maintenance
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
· Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
· Verify technicians use proper safety equipment and procedures.
· Maintain shop tools and equipment in good working condition.
· Report damaged equipment or unsafe conditions immediately.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Review and approve repair work orders.
· Track shop productivity and technician efficiency.
· Monitor labor hours and repair turnaround times.
· Prepare reports for management regarding shop performance.
· Assist in setting shop goals and improving operational efficiency.
· Additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Technical training in Small Engine Repair or a related mechanical field is preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of mechanical experience.
· Minimum of 2–3 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
· Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment.
· Ability to read service manuals and wiring diagrams.
· Basic computer skills for repair management software and Microsoft Office.
· Valid U.S. Virgin Islands driver's license or the ability to obtain one quickly.

Physical Requirements
