Second Shift (Afternoon/Evening)
Typical hours: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM (hours may vary based on production requirements)
Position Summary
The 2nd Shift Metal Finishing Packer is responsible for the final inspection, packaging, labeling, and preparation of customer parts for shipment following anodizing, plating, passivation, chemical conversion coating, and other metal finishing processes. This position plays a critical role in ensuring finished products are properly protected, accurately documented, and shipped in accordance with customer requirements and company quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect finished parts for visible defects, damage, and completeness prior to packaging.
- Verify work orders, quantities, customer specifications, and packaging instructions.
- Carefully package finished parts using appropriate materials to prevent damage during handling and transportation.
- Apply labels, certifications, packing slips, and shipping documentation as required.
- Count, sort, and organize finished parts to ensure order accuracy.
- Maintain traceability of customer products throughout the packaging and shipping process.
- Perform final visual inspections to identify scratches, dents, contamination, discoloration, or other defects.
- Prepare completed orders for shipment or customer pickup.
- Operate scales, label printers, and packaging equipment as required.
- Coordinate with quality, production, and shipping personnel to ensure timely order completion.
- Maintain organized inventory of packaging materials and supplies.
- Assist with shipping, receiving, and warehouse activities when needed.
- Complete production and shipping records accurately and legibly.
- Follow all company quality, safety, and environmental procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Manufacturing, warehouse, shipping, or packaging experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to read work orders and follow written instructions.
- Basic math and counting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during evening hours.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing, metal finishing, or industrial production environments.
- Familiarity with packing requirements for precision-machined or finished components.
- Experience with shipping documentation and order verification.
- Knowledge of AS9100, NADCAP, or aerospace quality systems.
- Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or warehouse equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and handling of parts and packaging materials.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with packing and labeling.
- Ability to visually inspect parts and read labels, travelers, and work instructions.
