Lead Controls Systems Engineer

A growing industrial automation and systems integration company is seeking a Controls Systems Engineer to join its engineering team. This position is responsible for the design, programming, integration, testing, and commissioning of industrial automation systems for a variety of manufacturing and process control applications. The role offers a mix of office-based engineering work and field commissioning at customer sites throughout the Pacific Northwest.
- Design industrial control systems, including electrical schematics and control panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications for industrial automation projects.
- Program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE, Modicon, Koyo, and similar PLC platforms.
- Configure and commission variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, motor starters, and motor control systems.
- Select, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot process instrumentation including flow, pressure, temperature, and level devices.
- Design and configure industrial Ethernet, serial, and wireless communication networks using protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profibus, and Profinet.
- Perform factory testing, startup, commissioning, and field troubleshooting of automation systems.
- Support project execution by coordinating with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal departments.
- Assist with project scheduling, change orders, documentation, and customer support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain compliance with applicable electrical and industrial automation standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- Experience designing electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Hands-on PLC programming experience, preferably with Allen-Bradley platforms.
- Experience developing HMI and SCADA applications.
- Knowledge of industrial networking technologies including EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profibus, Profinet, and serial communications.
- Familiarity with UL 508A, NEC, and NFPA 79 standards.
- Strong troubleshooting skills involving industrial electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to travel to customer sites throughout the region for startup and commissioning activities.
