Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers with manual transmission, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Plan and execute over-the-road (OTR) driving routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and routes.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or forklifts when necessary, ensuring proper securing of cargo such as hazardous materials, dangerous goods, or refrigerated goods.
- Transport a variety of cargo types including freight, hazardous materials (hazmat), automobile transportation, or specialized loads like tanker or flatbed shipments.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery documentation, and inspection reports in accordance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery status, route changes, or safety concerns.
Requirements
- Valid CDL A license with clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers with manual transmission preferred.
- Proven delivery driver experience with knowledge of route driving and logistics cargo handling.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other specialized equipment is a plus.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat) and dangerous goods handling is highly desirable.
- Ability to manually handle cargo safely during loading/unloading processes; forklift certification is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT standards governing commercial truck driving.
- Excellent navigation skills utilizing GPS systems for efficient route planning on over-the-road routes.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high safety standards in all aspects of trucking operations.
