Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, the seasonal incumbent will assist in providing attractive and enjoyable parks, athletic fields, horticultural areas, open space properties, facilities, and other sites under city obligation. Performs a variety of grounds keeping tasks in connection with the maintenance of city-managed properties including rights-of-way and streetscapes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs ground operations including trim mowing, edging, and turf maintenance including repairing damaged sod.
- Performs a variety of miscellaneous maintenance duties including general grounds keeping, weed removal, edging, trimming, litter/trash pickup, and maintaining the overall appearance of lands maintained by the City of Dacono.
- Spray chemical fertilizers, weed prevention, etc., necessary to complete assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Some knowledge of the following is preferred: horticulture, planting, cultivating, pruning, and general care for plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers; application of pesticides, fertilizers, maintenance of grounds keeping equipment
- Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools and light to medium equipment
- Willingness to perform tasks outdoors in a variety of climate conditions
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written assignments
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other employees, and the public
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Requires a current Colorado driver’s license
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work is primarily outdoors, performed in inclement or hot weather
- Frequent exposure to noise levels that may cause distractions
- Occasional exposure to confined work areas and to fumes, cold, heat, dirt, dust, noise, wetness, and pesticides
- Regularly climb, bend, crouch, stoop, reach with both hands
- Regularly carry, pull, or push object
- Frequently lifts and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Intermittently sits, stands and walks
- Ability to hear, regularly use of hands to finger
- May operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, light vehicles, lawn mowers, weed eater
