We grow and sell real food, show up for our communities, and believe Agriculture is the Culture. Our farmers market team is the face of FarmerJawn — and we take that seriously.
The Role
We’re hiring Farmers Market Associates (we call them Veggie Slingers) for our Astoria, NY location. You’ll represent FarmerJawn at market, connect with customers, sell produce, and create an experience that makes people want to come back every week.
What You’ll Do
- Set up and break down the market booth (tent, tables, signage, display)
- Receive and organize produce inventory at the start of each shift
- Greet and engage customers with enthusiasm and product knowledge
- Accurately handle transactions using our POS system (Square)
- Explain produce varieties, farming practices, and how to cook/use items
- Keep the booth clean, stocked, and visually appealing throughout the market
- Communicate any inventory, customer, or operational issues to the team lead
- Break down, pack, and return unsold inventory at end of shift
Schedule
Market hours: Sunday 12:00pm- 5:00pm (Once monthly)
Setup begins 10:30 am and breakdown ends 6:00pm. Attendance for the full shift is required.
Produce & Cold Storage
Fresh produce is stored in a refrigerated trailer stationed near the market. You will pull inventory directly from the trailer at the start of your shift and as needed throughout the market day.
Pay & Compensation
- $20/hour
- Paid for full shift including setup and breakdown

What We’re Looking For

- Comfortable being on your feet outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs (crates, bins, tents)
- Basic math and cash handling skills
- Food handler certification (or willingness to obtain before start)
- Must be 18 or older
- Must have reliable transportation to the market location
- Prior farmers market, retail, or food service experience a plus but not required
