Residential Mental Health Facilities in South Orange County Full-Time, Salaried | Monday to Friday | On-Site | Daytime Hours
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized, dependable, and compassionate Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to oversee and manage all medication operations across three 6-bed residential mental health facilities. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring medication compliance, resident safety, staff accountability, and seamless coordination with pharmacies, physicians, and facility teams. Traveling nurse that worked in residential substance or mental health facilities a plus.
This is primarily a daytime, Monday to Friday, on-site position with rotating or designated on-call responsibility. On-call hours for phone calls- end of shift to 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM to shift start time, and weekends.
The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in behavioral health, residential care, or medication administration systems.
Key Responsibilities
Medication Management & Compliance
- Oversee all medication administration systems and procedures across three residential facilities
- Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations, physician orders, pharmacy protocols, and internal policies
- Conduct regular medication audits, narcotic counts, and documentation reviews
- Monitor MARs (Medication Administration Records) for accuracy and completion
- Coordinate medication ordering, refills, deliveries, and destruction procedures
- Maintain medication storage standards and controlled substance compliance
Staff Oversight & Training
- Train, mentor, and oversee medication technicians and caregiving staff
- Ensure staff competency in medication administration procedures and documentation
- Address medication-related concerns, errors, or process improvements promptly and professionally
- Develop systems to improve efficiency, accountability, and resident care quality
Resident Care Coordination
- Communicate with physicians, psychiatrists, pharmacies, case managers, and treatment teams regarding medication updates and concerns
- Monitor residents for medication compliance issues, side effects, behavioral changes, or clinical concerns
- Assist with admissions, discharges, medication reconciliations, and care transitions
Operational Leadership
- Serve as the primary clinical point person for medication-related operations
- Support facility administrators and leadership teams with compliance readiness and operational coordination
- Participate in licensing visits, audits, and quality assurance initiatives
- Provide on-call support for urgent medication-related issues as needed
Qualifications
- Current California LVN license in good standing
- Experience in mental health, behavioral health, residential care, or similar settings preferred
- Strong understanding of medication administration protocols and regulatory compliance
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple facilities and prioritize effectively
- Comfortable working independently and making sound clinical decisions
- Experience with EMAR/MAR systems preferred
- Experience in Kipu EMR is a huge plus!
Schedule & Compensation

Pay: $68,000.00 - $73,000.00 per year
