Position Summary
The Youth Ministry Coordinator, under the supervision of the Lead and Associate Ministers, develops and leads ministries for youth in grades 9–12 and their families, also assisting the Middle School Youth Coordinator with grades 6-8. This part-time position fosters spiritual growth, belonging, service, leadership, and meaningful participation in the life of the church.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain regular fellowship programs for high school aged youth during the school year with a focus on issues relevant to the lives of youth, creating a supportive community environment which fosters spiritual, personal, relational growth and discipleship in the larger context of life in the Church.
- Collaborate with the Family Ministries Committee and FCC staff to plan, coordinate, and support special events that foster fellowship, celebration, spiritual growth, and intergenerational connections, including spiritual formation opportunities, social events, service opportunities, lock-ins, All Church Camp, the annual High School Coast Retreat, and other congregational gatherings.
- Plan summer gatherings for youth, with the primary focus on service-learning opportunities and fellowship events (i.e. Mission Trip, Sierra Service Project, Regional Youth Events, outdoor ministries, recreation, etc.).
- Develop and maintain ongoing communication with youth, including creating and managing a vibrant social media presence for ‘Ohana Youth Ministries. Regularly create short-form video content and other digital communications that celebrate the life of the ministry, build excitement for upcoming activities, and help youth feel connected and invited.
- Develop and maintain positive, supportive relationships with parents. Hold space for family and intergenerational connections, dialogue, and fellowship.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers in accordance with FCC's Safe Church Policy.
- Encourage youth participation in the broader life of the church, the Central Pacific Conference, and the United Church of Christ.
- Lead our Faith Exploration program with support from our Associate Minister, assist with youth-focused worship services, staff meetings, Family Ministries Committee meetings, and other assigned duties.
- Regularly consult with supervisors and Family Ministries Committee on how the assigned position responsibilities are being accomplished.
Qualifications
- Commitment to a progressive Christian faith community.
- Passion for the faith formation and well-being of young people.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to build authentic relationships across generations.
- Creativity, initiative, and ability to work independently.
- Sound judgment and commitment to youth safety and well-being.
- Experience in youth ministry, education, recreation, counseling, or a related field preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; theological training welcomed but not required.
- Valid driver’s license, background check, and CPR/First Aid/AED certification required (training provided by FCC).
Compensation and Schedule
- 15 hours per week, year-round, with flexible scheduling.
- Sunday mornings, some evenings, and occasional overnight events required.
