Summary: Receive, distribute, and log specimens into the lab. Assign accession numbers and prepares the cassettes for grossing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties as assigned.
- Verify that cases were received from all locations
- Accurately identify and check specimens
- Each case is entered into the LIS system and assigned an accession number
- Properly label each case and print cassettes
- Each case is placed into a tray for the grosser
- Resolve and document any problem specimens
- Scans patient requisitions with demographic sheet into LIS system for each case
- Responsible for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
- Understands and follows laboratory accreditation standard for CLIA
- Meets labs activity and production goals
- Keeps lab clean and neatly organized
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
- An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution
- Familiar with medical terminology
- Comfortable handling biological specimens
- Ability to accurately identify specimens
- Experience working in a team environment
- Strong data entry and organizational skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Proficient in Vital Axis, eCW and MS Outlook
- Can lift objects up to 40 lbs

Pay: $20.00 - $28.71 per hour
