About Us
East County Lawn Care and Fast Lawnscapes are locally owned commercial landscaping companies serving hundreds of commercial properties throughout Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties. We maintain apartment communities, HOA and condominium associations, assisted living facilities, retail centers, industrial properties, and office parks.
We are looking for a dependable, hands-on Landscape Fleet & Equipment Mechanic to keep our crews productive by maintaining and repairing our fleet of landscape equipment and company vehicles.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with both small engines and light-duty vehicles. Formal mechanic certifications are not required—we value experience, mechanical ability, and a strong work ethic.
Position Summary
As our in-house mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining our fleet of commercial landscape equipment, trailers, and company trucks. You will also respond to equipment breakdowns by delivering replacement equipment or performing field repairs so our crews can continue working with minimal downtime.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair commercial zero-turn mowers.
- Install and replace mower engines.
- Replace hydrostatic transmissions and drive components.
- Repair and maintain walk-behind mowers.
- Diagnose and repair string trimmers, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, chainsaws, pole saws, and other handheld landscape equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all landscape equipment.
- Change engine oil, hydraulic oil, filters, spark plugs, blades, belts, bearings, tires, batteries, and other wear items.
- Perform light mechanical repairs on company trucks and fleet vehicles.
- Oil changes and scheduled maintenance.
- Replace brakes, batteries, alternators, starters, belts, hoses, and other common service items.
- Perform trailer maintenance and repairs, including lights, hubs, bearings, brakes, tires, couplers, and wiring.
- Troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine cost-effective repair solutions.
- Maintain an organized inventory of parts, oils, filters, and shop supplies.
- Keep maintenance and repair records for company equipment.
- Load and deliver replacement mowers, tools, and equipment to field crews when breakdowns occur.
- Perform emergency field repairs when practical to minimize downtime.
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe.
- Communicate with management regarding equipment condition, repair priorities, and replacement recommendations.
Qualifications
- Mechanical experience with commercial landscape equipment is strongly preferred.
- Experience repairing small gasoline engines.
- Experience working on zero-turn mowers.
- Experience performing basic maintenance and repairs on pickup trucks and trailers.
- Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, fuel, and ignition issues.
- Ability to safely lift 75 pounds.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic welding or fabrication experience is a plus but not required.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
- CDL is not required.
- Clean driving record preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- $20.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience.
