About the Role
Day Shift Role (Full time)
- Monday & Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Tuesday & Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
No Place Like Home is seeking a compassionate and reliable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide Personal Support Services to an individual receiving DDA-funded supports in the Ellicot City area. The ideal candidate will promote community integration, independence, and personal growth through meaningful daily living activities and participation in local events and programs.
About the Individual:
- The individual attends classes at CCBC.
- Class schedule:
- Monday & Wednesday: 2:15 PM - 5:00 PM
- Tuesday & Thursday: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
- CCBC is approximately 15 minutes from the individual's home.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily living activities, educational participation, and personal organization to help the individual successfully complete college coursework and maintain daily routines.
- Encourage independence by helping the individual learn and maintain self-care, academic, and community navigation skills.
- Provide one-to-one support during college classes, assisting with understanding lectures, classroom discussions, instructions, and coursework while promoting self-advocacy and independent learning.
- Assist with take-home assignments, projects, and skill development as needed to support the individual's educational goals.
- Provide transportation and support to community outings, recreational activities, and other events of the individual's choosing when not attending classes.
- Assist with communication, self-advocacy, and building positive relationships with professors, peers, and community members.
- Promote a safe and respectful environment while upholding the individual's rights, preferences, and choices.
- Document daily activities, educational progress, community participation, and report any changes or concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Collaborate with family members, team members, and the Service Coordinator to ensure consistent, person-centered support.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
- DDA Required Training
- First Aid CPR
- MANDT
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Maryland driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record.
- Ability to use basic technology (cell phone, tablet, computer) for communication and documentation.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and professionalism.
- Must pass background and reference checks.
